really nice. I have a couple azaleas myself, Satsuki types, and they are tricky to keep long term for me. Though I have a couple that have passed the 5 year mark in my care, my casualty rate runs pretty high. I'm still figuring them out.

That said, 20 years in your care is impressive. Nice.

Leo, the trick with satukis or any azalea for that matter is that you need to periodically re-invigorate the plant by removing most of the roots, all of the soil and blasting the remaing root ball with a strong jet of water to remove all the remaining soil, fine roots and rubbish etc. (almost take it back to bare bones) You will be amazed at the plant response. Thats what the Japanese do. Its something which cannot be avoided every 4 or 5 years if you want your tree to keep progessing. When you perform this operation, you should also remove all flower buds so the plant can concentrate on growing. Must only be done in spring!!
