There a bubble chamber working on display in the Palais de la Découverte in Paris, and you can "see" the cosmic rays… Fortunately no radon. ^^

NERD!!!!!

(That's just too cool - had to share it with my brothers-in-law)

You want radon, lpm? Come to my house. I had to build a system to extract it from under the basement and vent it outdoors....

Cloud detector - cool
Radon in basement - not so much
I think it would be very cool to make a 'home' particle detector; does it actually show cosmic rays or just results of them hitting other things? Funny that they still don't know where cosmic rays are 'formed'

Well, you cant actually see a cosmic ray as it's a highly energetic charged particle (nuclei, electrons, protons, muons, etc) but you can see the light produced from the interactions and depending on the path of the light , you can identify the type of cosmic ray ..not sure what you mean by where they are formed..there is quite a bit of evidence that cosmic rays from space are formed from supernovae explosions.

Yes, did mean to say seeing the trail left in the cloud chamber (from the link). The article didn't specifically say that you could identify a passing c ray by a certain path and shape, just other ones.

I'd read a few short blurb articles last few days collected from different sources from last three or four years and one would say evidence from here and then disproved and other possible sources, so it was difficult to tell from them if there was a solid likely source

Naaah I'd go in Brittany instead, it's closer to me and beautiful.
(And you can have long walks outside in the sea wind)

(btw, just added a serious scintillation app to my phone, I just need the detector…)
