My orthoglossum is putting on a good show with 5 spikes this year. I caught it with a flower open on all 5. The flowers last about 5 or so days, and the spikes bloom sequentially. Some spikes last for a good dozen or so blooms. Smells like poo if you put your nose up to it.
I took it in for judging since there were some past quality award records for this species that this flower was competitive with, but the judges referred to the Bulbophyllum Reference Index by Greg Martin which lists this species as a synonym to B. carunculatum, (which has the magnificent awarded clone of Jo Levey's Magnifico to contend with). Needless to say, my plant didn't even get on the score board against the carunculatum awards.
