Had a doctor's appointment today and finally got an answer to why I've been so danged tired and listless lately. Now it feels like I might get the right help to recover and hopefully return to my old self.

This is why it may take a while for me to answer emails and/or PM:s, it's nothing personal, it's just that I'm rather exhausted at the moment.

Mutant, Hope you get better soon! All the stress from Orchids and school can't be good for you!

Vitamin defficiency?
Nope, I think the doctors have checked for every possible and impossible deficiency/disease/metabolic disturbance etc. and I'm healthy as a horse beside this burnout.

early kaamos?
Nope, but I forgot to mention that it's burnout with depression.

The orchids are what makes me happy at the moment, so they don't stress me, they liven me up somewhat. :)

I had to quit studying 'cause I was too tired and suffered from a rather severe lack of ability to concentrate, which didn't help, beside being extremely tired. I went back to work and got worse and now I'm on extended sick leave from work (and life in general).

It's my cats and my orchids that make me less tired, so I'm using them as a little bit of home therapy at the moment.

maybe you need some sunlights to extend your daytime? I know that some places up far north use uv lights to help with raising vitamin d in winter, and lack of vitamin d can lead to quite a few health situations. daylight bulbs can help to alleviate sunlight-lacking depression

I am glad the kittes and orchids make you happy! Same here!

I remember back in University that I felt tired and couldn't figure out why I felt super tired .... turns out my lab partner had Mononucleosis!

I'm a person with depression and I believe in better living
through chemistry. I stayed somewhere from mildly depressed to almost catatonic at times and didn't realize that it's a chemical condition in the brain called seratonin or lack thereof. Get a prescription for Lexapro or the generic equivalent. Once your seratonin levels are balanced, you'll find yourself feeling much better. There's
no reason to suffer through these "burnouts" when there's
a very safe drug to alleviate the condition. It ain't your
fault. The cause of depression hadn't been discovered until relatively recently. Do something about it, sweetie.
I went through years and years of depression before being diagnosed. You don't have to.

As I wrote in a previous post, the doctors have checked and I don't suffer any vitamin deficiency (I think they checked more than one vitamin D just to be on the safe side). :)
And, yup, you are correct, I think many in the Nordic countries suffer from depression due to lack of sunlight. Lucky me I've got five daylight bulbs in my apartment for my chids, but I benefit from them as well. :D

"Kissing disease", eh? What on earth did you and your "lab partner" do when you were supposed to work, hmm? :poke:

Are you sleeping well and long enough? If not, think about doing a Sleep Study.
At the moment, I can sleep the entire day away if I'm allowed to, so I sleep like the dead. ;)

I'm already eating "happy pills" and have for some time. They've helped somewhat, but as my doctor explained to me, this chemical imbalance (depression) can be caused by stress, as in my case, so it's no wonder I don't recover since I haven't removed myself from the source of stress until now.

It seems that I'm generally more sensitive to stress than "normal" people, which is why this has happened. I've recently had a medical investigation that may or may not, conclude why I'm more sensitive to stress, but I'm still waiting for the results (it was during this examination that they took all those blood samples and checked for any treatable conditions and came up with nothing).

Well, the happy pills don't quite make you happy, but they
do help when one hits one of those deep wells of depression one can't seem to get out of. Glad you removed yourself from the stress-inducer. Take care and
treat yourself with kindness.

Get well soon. Orchids are great therapy. For some reason they always remind me of home. Maybe because they are tropical plants and my parents and other families grew them.

I can hear you on this one. I struggled greatly with the stress and pressure of University. I could keep up and even excell, but the stress and pressure to do so drove me into depression.

This may seem like odd advice, but please keep it in the back of your mind.
Please don't give up on school. You are capable of it -the stress, pressure, and sometimes failure (or success!!). Take time to heal yourself, but don't become accustomed to the freedom. It was a real struggle for me to get back to the reality of hard work -and no one was going to hold my hand! I had to do it. Going back part time when your ready will be easiest.
Life is hard and it should be I suppose. Accept this as a challenge you must face and spend every day working on it. It feels amazingly good. Medication (while important imho) will only take you so far.

I'm so glad you have orchids! They were a great turning point for me too!
Finding orchids was the point for me where I realized that I'm right weird, but I like what I like and there's a gaggle full of goons like me in their own way ;) I am blessed to have a hobby that fulfills me so completely! I hope you get this too!

It has been a pleasure to meet you on this forum and watch your passion for orchids grow! I hope it continues!

One last note...sleep and quality sleep are very different. I would do a sleep study as well. If you're sleeping over 9 even 12 hours and still tired there's a problem!
