Cattleya gaskelliana 'large and dark'

this is another species from Strauss orchids labelled 'grosse and dunkel'.
As this is the first plant of the species I've flowered I am not too sure of the label.
Anyway it put up two growths in the spring but instead of flowering they just continued growing and a further three growths emerged. One has now flowered albeit a bit late in the season.
Anyway I am well pleased with it.
There are a potful of growths so it should increase in size quickly,

That is an impressive bloom. I've never been able to reliably tell all the big purple Catts apart, so I can't comment on the species identification.

Being a bit of a stickler on naming though, "grosse and dunkel" and "large and dark" should not be in single quotes unless they are intended as cultivar designations, and then they should be capitalized and the original German should not be translated.
