I am originally from Chicago and originally a paph grower. I have since moved out to Salt Lake City (a lack luster of a city, to me). I also have started really getting into miniatures. I now have 4 large exo terra terrariums and tons of micro-minis. I have always been a little paph sick and home sick. (quite possibly related) so I have been rebuilding my collection of paphs again.

My most recent paphs:
Yang-Ji Diamond (in spike) my favorite next to Liberty Taiwan!!
stonei (BS)
niveum (in bud)
sangii (NBS)
tranlienianum (on its way)
Annie Fuchs (hangianum x vietnamense) (BS)
Paph. Murial Constance (compot from T. Kalina/ largest plant in bud)

plus many others. Looking forward to posting some pics soon, so all of you extremely competitive growers, please critique them accordingly. I appreciate it.

Ah, another person in a dry hot climate! (Ironically, my finger hit f instead of d and I initially wrote fry hot.)

So, how are you growing these paphs?
Do you have a greenhouse?

I've been reticent to try many, or even one, because I don't think I have a humid enough environment for the money spent. I do not have a greenhouse. Do well with sun lovers and Japanese origins.

Curious to know how you are growing! and Welcome!

I grow inside under lights, hence the terrariums. I use the forth one for my paph seedlings and I recently purchased a in and out zip up greenhouse, which is a plastic lined unit with shelves( a good deal for $40). I put a light in it and a few fans for air movement.

I do grow some paphs in the house, but the prized ones are cared for with more humidity and better lighting. The problem I am having is finding space for the new multifloral crosses that are becoming available.

The problem is I do not ski, play golf(sorry Tom) or do much in terms of hiking. I miss the big city lights (no, SLC does not count).

Culturally, it's polar opposites.

My move is absolutely temporary. If a new job op comes up, I'm on it. I'm thinking someplace tropical at the moment. I love Chicago, but the weather is another thing. We all make sacrifices for what we love.

Anyone need a qualified salesman?

You actually MISS the big city lights? And how can you not love hiking? You're definitely a city boy, my polar opposite. My dream either to live in the most remote tropical rainforest in an open tree house with orchids growing around me OR build a gigantic greenhouse in remote Montana way back in the mountains and build a little house inside the greenhouse. Neither one is very realistic but I prefer to be away from people, sadly, that means being away from orchid shows. I'm torn! Oh, and welcome to Slipper Talk!

Welcome to ST from KY. I'm with you Orchid Boy. I like privacy, quiet and
country living. Besides that, my dear Chicago friends talk too fast...gotta
be quick in the city.

Welcome from South Africa. I spend a fair amount of time with my plants and birds in my greenhouse. I can do that just as well in the city or the country, so both would work for me. (Just building a greenhouse in the city might be problematic, guess I would end up living in a terrarium)

Hey Chad, glad you found this great site, I've been here for years, I post some of my Paphs now&then. Things are going good at the BOS had a real good show this year. Again WELCOME.... Jim.
