Anyone want to share their favorite US vendors for slippers in terms of plant quality, price and selection? I am fairly new to the forum so would like to hear from all you experienced growers/purchasers. Thanks in advance.

If you're getting flasks/compots, Flasks by Chuck Acker is good. Limited selection, but really top of the line in terms of U.S. breeding and reasonable prices for most things.

Fairly recently I've purchased some things from Piping Rock. They haven't bloomed yet, but the roots and foliage were very healthy and the plants were of advertised size (i.e. blooming size). On a side note, I've been a little shocked by the number of retailers that list their plants as blooming size or near blooming size, but you receive plants that are anything but. So, I now use that as a test of quality, and Piping Rock delivered. Also, a lot of the prices are very affordable for a slipper, and I plan to purchase more plants, soon.

It's a little more hit and miss, but Ebay can also be a good source. Just make sure to do your research on the seller and be sure to review the ratings and feedback.

Also, one of the sub-forums on this site is for vendors, so you might want to check those out. They all seem pretty good.

Thanks GC. I have purchased a few paphs from Piping Rock at an orchid show and was also pleased with the quality of the plants. I have never bought a flask...too afraid I would kill the seedlings during the deflasking. I bought a few plants from OrchidInn but I must admit I was disappointed with the quality. I repotted them shortly after purchase and the roots were weak and stringy.

In addition to the above mentioned, there's Thanh Nguyen's Springwater Orchids (on ebay as well), and Dean Hung's Paphiness, he also posts on Ebay. While Ebay can be hit and miss, some dealers are more reliable and frequently have good deals- Shermantp, orchidsnw, our own potterychef1. I forget her name, but she sells as "pupsi dog"...prices are very inconsistent. Either sky high or a bargain. Get one of her bargains, and you'll get a great plant. (Hopefully sky high you get an even better plant....)

Paphs, Piping Rock, Orchid Inn at shows where you can pick out the plants, Thanh Nguyen, Doug the Potterychef, Marriot if you can afford them, Orchids Limited, Ten Shin is making a lot of inroads with new crosses from the far east, one I have not dealt with but the plants always seem good is Orchidnsw. parkside always has interesting stuff also.

Joan Bateman on ebay usually has nice plants, but I've forgotten the name
of her establishment. Definitely Mr. Nguyen at Springwater Orchids on ebay. Practice due diligence on buying from ebay and ask here on ST for
yea or ney.

I only dabble in Paphs, but I think the best I've gotten in terms of quality and value for $ are from:

Thanh Nguyen/Springwater Orchids

Joan Bateman/Orchidaceae.com--orchidsnw on ebay

ebay seller wiredgrower

Fred Clarke/Sunset Valley Orchids

Piping Rock Orchids, Parkside Orchids, Orchid Inn Ltd, Ten Shin Orchids, Paphiness Orchids, eBay: SpringWater Orchids, Orchidaceae.com

I'm going along with the previous mentioned vendors with the exception of Mariott, divisions might be OK but seedlings I have do nothing but struggle plus they're expensive. I wouldn't do compots from Woodstream again, I haven't tried adult plants but they take forever to ship & have no contact with you. Check with Tom Kalina, Fox Valley Orchids. Anyone heard anything regarding the status of June's? I got a few from them & they were terrific!

Week 4 AUCTIONS will have some paphs coming up!

I've bought from Woodstream twice and received healthy, good-looking plants at a fair price, not exactly cheap. They have a great selection of species and especially complex Paphs. The only problem with ordering from them is that they travel a lot and don't respond to email right away. Both times I ordered it took a little over 4 weeks before the plants finally arrived, but then this was during the busy show season. I will probably be ordering from them again in the future.

You can usually get good prices from Pine Ridge Orchids. Quite a few retailers and eBayers buy and resell their stuff.
