Fishing has been awful for me this year. I either miss the day when fish were in, or find out that there are none around anyway. Well, on Saturday the 4th my luck changed......the bass is 36" long and 17 lbs......caught on 10 lb test line from shore in a tidal creek near Peconic Bay...and it tasted good too!

:clap:That's quite the trophy! How many did it serve?

Pan fried in butter? Yummy. We have small mouth bass infesting our local rivers eating all the indigenous fish. You welcome to come over and catch them too.
Can you imagine what this largemouth monster consumed each day?

Goldenrose!!! Aren't you ashamed for calling Eric that way in public!!!??? :D:poke::D

Wow, Eric!! That's a fish... I still remember you telling me about the fish you catch around NYC and that you indeed can eat them... next time in NYC I want one like that on the plate.. :)

I was told by reputable captain that there was hardly any bunker in the
Raritan Bay this year, and the striper season was a bust this year for my
wife and I.

Way to go Eric!!! Nice catch!

Clam, bunker, or artificial?

Well, my big mouth ate a lot of fish! Saturday night, simply broiled with salt and pepper, with a sauce on the side made from shallots, butter, and white wine....Sunday night, dredged the fillet in crushed almonds, sauteed in butter...much better! Another piece was broiled with a garlic, chorizo, and almond topping.....my son is eating the leftovers tonight! There are loads of bunker around..unusual for this late in the season...it had a huge bunker in its belly. Surprised to hear that Raritan is doing so poorly..supposedly Jamaica Bay has had fantastic bass fishing this year, and lots of bunker.....This fish was caught in a creek leading to Peconic Bay, 90 miles from NYC. By the way, striped bass is a major fishery success story. Careful management, including a total moratorium in 1985, and a 10 year commercial moratorium, led to a big resurgence. Its now very abundant....limits are still tight..28" minimum, limit of 1 fish/day (in NYS). Supposedly the population is now so high in the Hudson River that they are impacting other species, like shad......Take care, Eric
