Hi, guys! Beginner here ... well, second-time beginner, since I had a *little* experience with paphs from years ago, when I managed to get a philippinense to bloom and then promptly killed it. Awful, right?

Anyway, I just put in an order for a few plants from Hausermanns (not sure when they will ship what with winter weather) and will be posting various questions and whatnot. I've really enjoyed reading the forum over the last week or so while decided whether or not to try orchids again, and it seems like a very friendly, helpful place.

Hi, everyone!

abax, I was up in your neck of the woods Thanksgiving weekend, visiting the National Quilt Museum in Paducah. (And doing a ridiculous amount of fabric shopping, which you'll understand if you know anything about quilters.)

Eric, you enabler ... I just placed an order with C&H. This is how it starts, isn't it?

I do know quilters and admit about half my husband's family are master hand quilters. I do a bit of machine quilting, but am average at it. However, I really do like looking and buying fabrics even if I give most of it away to those more talented. Fabric addiction is almost as
engrossing as orchid addiction!

NYEric, I'm pretty focused on paph species but I did include an alba Maudiae-type in my Hausermann's order. I do love green/white flowers, and it's supposed to be be in bud, plus I was craving some instant gratification since most of what I'm getting will be seedlings. Will post details as orders come in ... Just two orders. TWO. I am holding that line.

abax, I'm definitely in the "average" camp when it comes to quilting and sewing, but I do enjoy it and hope to keep increasing my skills. As for my growing stash, I blame those infamous "fabric fumes."

OK, a species person. Have you seen some of the album species!? :D

This one got an award yesterday

Welcome! My sisters and mother used to collect fabric and one sister made me a patchwork quilt when I was a kid; used it so much it later fell apart

Elmer, that is gorgeous! Is that your baby? What species? A well-loved quilt shows its age ... :)

Eric, you're enabling again. Now, I'm thinking I'll need the alba varieties of every species. TWO orders. That's all I'm getting for now. (The one from Hausermann's will be arriving today. So excited!)

abax, as a (not very good) knitter, I can also vouch for the seductive effect of "yarn fumes." But what's the orchid-addict's excuse? "Orchid fumes" doesn't exactly sound right. I'll go with, "Oooooh, PRETTY!"

Actually I live in Elmer nj (I'm Charles). The pic is of a paph venustum album that received a cultural merit award at the njos show I was at.
The quilt was ragged many years ago and by now would have been scattered threads :)

Oops! Hi, Charles! Thanks for the info.
