I keep very few non orchids these days but this is one I love. I had admired this for years and a dear friend surprised me with 3 bulbs of it for my birthday 5 years ago. It has grown 2 new bulbs that are not mature yet and currently has 2 spikes with one in bloom.

Wow, that's a nice picture of a great plant :)

It's been very nice to find thi sthread here today :) I own this species since 3 years, and have never been able to get it to bloom. I had tried everything what had been told to me and nothing.. so, last year, I decided to give it the last chance, bloom or move (to the bim, as nobody wanted to have it). I then decided to give it strong treatment, and placed the pot in my "closed balcony" (where I keep my Neofinetias, Coelogyne and Cymbidium). The temps here goes down to 10°C (about 50F) during winter, and neglected it there since November. Early today, I was misting the Neofinetias, and oh surprise: I could see two spikes starting to grow from two different bulbs (one from the oldest, which is supposed to be 7 years old, and the other from a 1,5 years old bulb)

I think this plant will definitely stay with me for a longer period, but will receive "Coelogyne cristata"-treatment from now on... :)

I am much gentler with mine but if it worked, it worked...glad to hear it didn't end up in the bin! It is a wonderful species. I have one spike this past summer and 2 now

I seem not to able to bloom these... Not enough sun perhaps!!! Ron, yous is amazing!!!!

I don't have this particular species, but I have several amaryllis hybrids planted in my garden here in California (Zone 9B). They seem to enjoy the cool (but not freezing) temperatures during winter and then bloom in the spring. This one is particularly striking. I'll have to order some bulbs soon!

Thanks for posting! :)
