From almost a week of vacation that started at the Santa Barbara Show. It was nice meeting Jason F. and I got to see Julia again. This was my first time so it was good chance that I ran into several OSF members that offered to lead me to Cal Orchids and SBOE. I had to refrain from over buying as both my kids and hubby had to fit somewhere, and I think the luggage rack for human cargo is illegal.

Gorgeous weather and we had a fantastic trip except for one nightmarish stay. We stayed overnight at a "luxury" hotel in Morro Bay. No negatives posted about it on Expedia. We woke in the morning freaking out as we caught what we at first thought were 12 "tics" in our beds! Most of the little ones were engorged with our blood! We packed in a big hurry and got out of there. Well, upon googling later I found that they were bedbugs...EEEWWW!!! My husband was able to catch some in a bottle and gave some to the manager. All they would do is give us 50% off the room. We are going to be contacting Expedia. Since then we've googled the hotel and found one posting of a family that had a similar situation but fled in the middle of the night.

So, I'm busy washing all our clothes and bags as they are adept hitchhikers. We're still feeling creepy and will probably not feel fully comfortable in hotels from now on!

Santa Barbara was gorgeous and we loved, loved it. I especially liked the rural Goleta area. Maybe a move in 4 years when the youngest goes to college?? It's good to be home though, in our critter-free bed.

Be afraid, Candace may have cooties!

My mom never hesitates to remind me that we may bring bedbugs back when going out-of-town, even when staying at nice places. I woke up with bites at the last place we stayed near them (which is only expensive due to location), but I didn't find any culprits. It's too funny you brought them down in a jar--not funny "ha ha" of course, but... I can't believe they didn't reimburse you fully, if only in the hopes of shutting you up.

At least you had a good trip overall though. That's one I'd like to make someday.

What gets me mad, besides the obvious is that we thought they were ticks and were freaking out that we all were going to have to be tested for Lyme disease and go on antibiotics for a week for precautionary measures. My husband actually discussed with the management that we wanted them to re-imburse us for co-pays for doctor visits and they said no and that antibiotics were precautionary and not a necessity. They claimed a guest probably snuck in a dog and blamed it on a prior visitor. They were quite happy to let us believe they were ticks and freak out rather than admit they were bedbugs. And they had to know since another guest has made an internet posting with the same problem a year ago!!

I can't believe they didn't reimburse you fully & offer a free night or 2! I don't know of many that would take them up on that under that circumstance. So much for customer service!
