Heck no. Looks like a deperle type to me (delenatii by some cochlopetalum). Probably has liemianum due to the markings on the undersides of the leaves and tiger stripes on the bracts.

I agree with Ernie 100%.

Wasn't there a thread last fall/winter about a known orchid nursery advertising blatantly mislabelled plants on E-bay? Was it Hilltop Orchids? I seem to remember that they had a non-orchid person doing their E-bay stuff and the accuracy was dismal at best. If it was Hilltop, it's about time that they got things right! This auction is a rip-off!

Yep, this is the same crew. Darren for Hilltop.

That plant has been up for a few weeks. I had a little email exchange with Darren, explaining how it was definitely not barbatum.... even though that cross is a barbatum cross, the plant itself is clearly a cochlopetalum hybrid. He replied basically that its the owner's call as to what is posted and how its labelled. He said he would discuss it with him. Apparently the owner wants to stick with that label, as it's been a few weeks since we discussed it.

Oh Brother!

So, the owner's policy is: Let's just stay ignorant and perpetuate ignorance because that's how we've always been? That's a huge disservice to the entire orchid growing community!
BOYCOTT!

I invited Darrell to post here and get some opinions on the plant, but he didn't feel like posting here again. He was certainly open to discussion with me about it. The thing is, he posted links to photos of barbatum flowers...and anyone can see by looking at the pictures that this plant has to be a different from barbatum. I get the impression from him that the owner just doesn't want to be bothered with internet or ebay. He wants to sell plants, but has no interest in the techniques of selling plants online.

the old saying is quite appropriate - you can lead a horse to water but can't make them drink!
We tried, seemed they cared to a point, well not anymore!
Makes me wonder - have they sold anything?

And that is how the bad businesses get weeded out and are forced to close. If you don't respect your customer, you are not long for this world. Knowingly giving NoID plants a species name and trying to dump them on the unsuspecting buyer is low...really, really low.
