The past weekend I visited Lake Kerkini, in north Greece, near Serres perfecture, in order to attend a seminar about the Lesser White fronted Goose (LWfG for short) Anser erythropus which is the most critically endangered species of geese in Europe (it has a population of aprroximatelly 100 individuals)!!!!! Very difficult to distinguish fron Anser aldifrons, the White fronted Goose! The seminar took place at the Environment Information Centre of Lake Kerkini, some picts of the interior of which you can see on pics 1-7!!! In the next picture there are some skulls of the mammals that can be seen near the lake (Water buffalo and wild pig, otter-jackal-wolf, little field mouse). The lake is well known for the populations of water buffalos, managed by local shepherds, the milk of which is used in the local cuisine, as an ingedient of several sweets ("kazan dipi", "tauk yiouksu" and more) in the most part of northern Greece etc. The last picture shows a traditional lobby (mostly the fireplace...:D) Enjoy!!!

Additionally I post some pics that show some aspects of the lake! In the last picture you can see (more or less) a probable flock of LWfG...In the previous picture you can see some ducks that exist at the second picture!LOL!(there are also two Corvus cornix) Although these lands may seem barren, there are lots of birds taking advantage of this scenery to camouflage!!! In the second picture there is a flock of Phoenocipterus roseus flying along the coast. Most of these parts of land flood during spring for the summer, when there is more need for watering the fields of local farmers!
