Hi all,

2 weeks ago my Restrepia antennifera pushed out a massive flower bud. Having seen many trichoglossa and guttulata blooms I was amazed by the size of the antennifera bud.

Here is a pic of the flower (it opened yesterday morning).

These are very difficult to photograph with a little point-and-shoot Sony so here is a closer look at the plant's smaller bits:

This plant was sent to me from a very kind Dutch friend.

I'm very happy with the flower I just hope it can survive the upcoming summer. The last one was very rough on my Pleurothallids. The last time Ecuagenera came the visit I placed my order too late so that brachypus I want eluded me... but they will visit again next year. :D My Trisetella hoejeri survived the last summer and is sending up new growths so I'm hoping I will be able to post photos it it one of these days.

So great!!!! Wish I could grow them.... :( Summer is the enemy here too!!!

Nice one! Mine only blooms rarely compared to the other restripia that I have. They're addictive.

Nice restrepia you have there. I'm curious though who your Dutch friend is. Maybe it's someone I know. :p

I also have the experience that it's very dificult to take a proper picture of them. I use a 105 mm macro and when I set it up so that the flower fills most of the picture depth of field is so limited that only a brief section is in focus. A pure side shot would make it easier to get a side shot but you would miss out on the nice patterns and colours they display on their lip.
