Neo. nishidemiyako

First neo. opening. There is also a shunkyuden and yodo-no-matsu in progress. One of which came from Jane. I miss her.

I haven't used my camera for close-ups in ages. Need to re-figure it out. This is 4 photos kept out of about 200.

Nice ... I see a potential Manazuru baby on the lower left of plant in pic 1. Very valuable.

Did you know this variety Nishidemiyako is considered a ‘dream’ plant because it has the potential to mutate to about 6-7 different types including Ginsekai and Saikaku too? All valuable and more expensive than the mother plant. The rate of mutation in my experience is 1 in 20 growths.

Leslie - This is exactly why I love this type. The potential change in variegation in new growths is fanastic.

Abax - Here you go. Just close ups of the blooms fully opened. I haven't had a neo bloom for me in quite a while. I do miss the fragrance.....It reminds me of vanillaish sweet tarts.

I really like this one too. I've always wanted a Tamanishiki, but never was willing to shell over the bucks to buy one.

Thank you Marco. Neos are such delicate, graceful bloomers. I used to
grow them and they did quite well, however, none ever bloomed for
me. I had really big plants though.

Gorgeous Neo. These have such interesting history and background. Seems like a excellent genus to learn more about. That could keep a Neo novice like me busy for a while.

The tamanishiki is also one of the 8 varieties that can mutate from a nishidemiyako! So maybe try one nishi and hope for the best.

I find that a forced cool drier rest in winter (and more light) will trigger them to bloom in spring.
