Many thanks to Russell (Aquacorps), who gave me two seedlings of this cross to grow and bloom. This one grew quite large and has a flower similar in color, but slightly smaller than Woodrose 'Echo' (charlesworthii x Normandy). The other remained much smaller and the bud stayed lodged on the leaves, then aborted. I hope to rebloom that one on the second growth.

Ross, you definitely have better. Not one for my collection, sorry.

I agree. Not every seedling bloomed is show quality.

One of the things I enjoy most about Paphs is blooming out new crosses and multiple plants of the same cross, looking for that next great flower. This is different from Phals, Catts, and Oncidiums, where these days large corporations bloom thousands of a cross, pick the best and clone the hell out of them. The result is more beautiful flowers, at the cost of less variation. I'm not condemning this approach to flower production, as I'm sure many people prefer to know they are getting a quality flower on every bloom. I personally enjoy the anticipation and surprise (and sometimes disappointment) as each different seedling blooms.

As far as charlesworthii x complex crosses go, I'd rate this about average from my experience. In a similar cross, where I bloomed out about a dozen, only one had a dorsal that was "locked in" and did not reflex.

I believe seedlings are the best enjoyment. The excitement or disappointment on flower....its the good ones we want and the average ones become someone elses joy & they can see what they are getting also.
No seedlings.....no new mericlones.
