I bought this exul because the plant has a slightly smaller growth habit than most that I have seen.

great bloom and rather compact plant!!!

Any growing tips for it? Me plant is much larger but does not bloom; it gets the most light possible! Jean

  ADORABLE!!!
I hope the move to higher light & the chillin' will get mine blooming!

Higher light (almost Cattleya light) seems to help, but chilling is probably not necessary as year round highs in its native area are around 90F and lows 75F. In notes supplied by the late Charles Baker, he states: "growers report that a drier rest in winter is needed to induce blooming." Quote taken from OrchidWiz.

Magnificent P.exul, excellent colouration and stance of the bloom.

Don't chill it! As Paphreek already mentioned although P. exul looks similar to P. insigne it is contrary to P. insigne a warm grower all year.

Best regards from Germany, rudolf

Nice exul, Ross.. :) I think your plant looks about average size for this species.

Oh, so is that what it needs..? I didn't dry mine, so it got to 10 growth but not a single flower. Sols it off though but still keeping a 2 growth division.. :p

I like it, cannot wait for mine to open. I do not know how I handled mine differently from the other plants. I have lots of others that did not bloom this year while exul is about a week from fully open.

It is a great looking one. I have seen bigger growing plants of these. I like the more compact ones too.

Thanks Ross, I'll have to watch the water this winter ....
or hang it from the ceiling with the cycnodes and forget about it!

That's a great looking flower Ross!! Really weird to see one in bloom in our Autumn.

Mine blooms readily each winter/spring. It gets almost direct light and summer temps in the mid 90's. I don't have to get to crazy about drying it out in the winter.
