Amazing!!!!! Fantastic colours!!!! Is this the real species??? The one with the pointy petals is the var. esqurolei??? I am comfused...:(

Esquirolei is the warm grower, hirsutissimum is the cold. I would say that esquirolei has narrow petals & dorsal & edges on both are wavy, I wouldn't call it pointy.
 
How long has this flower been open? It could just be inmature at this point. Or it could be the varity chiwuanum, which is suppose to be smaller then the other.

Just like that huh T? That will be the day when something purple "just pops up" in my GH:poke:I'm too damn nosey for something to just pop up:rollhappy:

Gorgeous flower.
I remember the old days, when my uncle used to take trip up into the highland to look for & collect orchids (he called them phong lan).
He grew all of them outdoors under a shaded wooden structure that allow some light filter thru.

Can you tell us where in Vietnam, and what the elevation was?

As Rick H mentioned it looks like var. chiwuanum which should come from far North Vietnam at fairly high elevations. It's a fairly small flower at this point compared to a mature var. esquirolei flower, and there are no undulations of the petals at this point.
