I have had this plant for quite a few years now and it is still basically a single growth plant. All I want for Christmas is for this plant to put out two new leads after it has finished flowering. :)

Fantastic picture of a fantastic flower/plant. Have you tried flipping the K and Ca/Mg ratios as Rick has been avocating? That maybe the trick to stimulate more growth.

Beautiful plant and flower.

I'm working on a seedling from Sam. It had poor roots to start (which he cautioned me about in advance), but in the basket system its slowly coming around.

Very beautiful. One of my fav Paph. I have one in spike, cna't wait for it to bloom. Its a very slow grower so dont leave the spike on the plant too long. I once left it for 2 months and killed my first plant.

Wonderful colors, I like the dark purple changing into green...The first pic is really sophisticated!
Thanks, Gina

Not so much flipping but I have been increasing the amount of Ca and Mg fertiliser.

I have been moving my Barbata species to sphagnum recently which I think I will do with this one. It is currently in CHC's.

This one is quite a good grower. It generally takes two years for the growth to flower which is pretty good especially given the size of the plant. I just wish it would put out more growths.

beautiful!!!! need to add this species to my collection, big time.

What's the difference between this and volonteanum?

Primary difference is that volonteanum has purple pigment under the leaves. Some of the flower pics I've seen of the two shows slightly larger petals with a potential to ruffle (like hirsutisimum) for volunteanum. Slight difference in elevation found.

This another one like splitting hairs between hirsuitisimum and esquirolei. Probably just a highland and lowland form of the same species.

Feeding change + basket has put 3 new growths on my ciliolare that are growing fast. Tonsum, venustum, and wardii really kicking butt with new growths and spikes in progress. My tortipetalum and purpuratum are adding growths fast too, but haven't bloomed yet in the baskets.

Feeding change but still in old bark based mix for callosum var subleave producing a bunch of new growths on short stolons near the potting mix.
