(P helenae X P. Pacific Shamrock)
Last year this had two nice blooms, this year first bloom the second growth is just starting sheath. This just opened and I think it gets more yellow as it ages. ENJOY...... Jim.

Nice one Jim. It seems to be an easy hybrid to grow and maintain. My is double sheath as well but will be a while

Quite a nice flower! I hope it'll turn more golden with age.

Tyrone, In-Charm Orchids has pictures of this cross on their webpage, as well as of In-Charm Gold (Emerald Magic x helenae).
From these pics I get the impression that the In-Charm Golds are quite compact (my plant certainly is), but the In-Charm Topaz' are real tiny, probably due to helenae being the pod parent.

My plant is at the Mid-America show in Tenn. this weekend, when it comes back I'll measure it and take another pic. Thanks...... Jim.

  Nice cross!
My plant has helenae like/shape leaves but larger, though still a compact plant. My bloom was pretty yellow when I bought, don't know how long it was open, Jim's is greener but that can change & if it doesn't, it's still nice! I have seen some of this cross that had helenae like dorsals that I didn't find as appealing.

Got my plant back from the Mid-America 'no ribbons' but I did get a chance to measure it, it's 2.5" X 2.5" as you can tell from my ruler, thanks..... Jim.

Pretty flower, but why does it seem that the new batch of helenae hybrids is so monotonous? All I see are interchangeable crosses of helenae with green complexes. aside from the venustum cross I got here, they are all the same. Where are the interesting crosses?

I think you are right, is it because of it's newity? :)rollhappy: if that's even a word!)
What do you think would be interesting crosses?

I'd love to see some crosses with brachy's or parvi's. Wouldn't it be great with thaianum? armeniacum? How about a multifloral with wilhelminiae? Crossing it with complex types, why not the whites?

In addition to venustum x h., I have Jolly Green Gem x h. & Pacific Shamrock x h., the later ones being green complexes as you mentioned. I certainly can see the helenae influence in all, they're all a bit different but I understand what you mean. I think the whites would be good attempt. I imagine starting in crosses of the same section might yield better results, (would it help the flatten henrys dorsals?) but there's quite a bit of variance in the paphiopedilum section and heaven forbid a cross of helenae x hirsutissimum is something I don't want to see, I'm having a hard time imaging!
x h.thaianum? - my first thought -YUK! I'm not a fan of thaianum, yet, it could change, I've seen 2 in person & they're cute but they don't really do anything for me. If one were interested in minis then one should get & keep small, compact plants but I try to remind myself "can a cross of these two result in an improvement over either one? Helenae, if it dominates could/should/might improve thaianum but the reverse? - I'm back to YUK. BUT ..... One doesn't know with thaianum being so new.
Maybe some of the parvis, yes, armeniacum would be a logical choice but how could it improve armeniacum? If the helenae influence shows, where would we see it? in the dorsal? I'm having a hard time taking bits & pieces of the two & interchanging them or meeting in the middle.
I could see crossing in the cochlo section but the multis? I love the long, twisting petals & I wouldn't want to risk losing that. If it added some color, that would be OK but has helenae has put color into anything it's been crossed with so far?
Something tells me some of these are already in the making as we speak! Thanks for listening to my ramblings!
