I have been slowly re-establishing this plant. It has been more than a decade since I have flowered it well with four flowers on a spike. It is still not at its best but it is getting closer. Since I put it in a basket it has really picked up. I think this is one of the best plants in my collection, so I am excited about the future now that I am confident it can reach its potential.

Paph Julius (rothschildianum 'Rex' x lowii 'Burma Beauty')

Beautiful display!

Though, I tend to favour the parents each on their own - I must say, you've got something going for the hybrid: good, saturated colouring, nice intensity, and very good and harmonious overall shape. Congrats!

Kind regards,
Jens

Thanks Jens

And don't forget the towering spike the lowii brings to the hybrid. I think every collection should have a good clone of Julius in it. :)

Alas, what does the Good Book say: "... there was no room for them in the inn" (Luke, 2:7) :D

And especially not since the division of P. St.Swithin 'Yellow King', that I bought from Fabrice, arrived quite recently! I hope, I will succeed in keeping it alive and make it blossom - take a look at Fabrice's post from his last flowering of the plant, and I think, you might understand, why the hardcore speciesist for once, and not the least reluctantly, surrendered:

Wow a decade sounds soooooo long David.
Beautiful flower on this clone. I can only pray my clone stays healthy and get 4 on a spike before a decade passes!

Yes, I wouldn't be able to resist that St Swithin either. It is fantastic. That is a great purchase. But I don't think you will be able to resist my Julius either if I can grow it as well as that St Swithin 'Yellow King'. So I think you need a bigger inn. :)

I'm afraid, you might be right! :rollhappy:

And at the moment I rather think the problem more is me being at risk of being squeezed out of the inn! And out there it's bleak and dark november, the wind is howling and the crows are lurking up there, in the tree tops, for prey!

Good luck with Julius and happy growing! Keep us posted on its development!

Kind regards,
Jens
