Everything with micranthum rules! =)

Interesting. The flower doesn't look the like what I'd expect. In fact, if we had been playing the guess the parentage game, my money would have been on micranthum x emersonii (though the fact that the pouch color isn't contrasting would have me confused).

I agree, micranthum makes some beautiful hybrids. The veining of the petals is hard to beat. I like the short stem. It seems like a lot of my favorite parvi hybrids are plagued by very tall stems, which makes them a bit of a challenge to grow and bloom under lights.

Probably half the imported Sugar Suites (emersonii x micranthum) really have hang as a parent.....

Eric, I think you may be mistaken. Isn't Sugar Suite (Paph. emersonii x Paph niveum). That would mean that even if they switched out emersonii to hangianum it wouldn't be Liberty Taiwan.

And can you imagine the confusion going forward?

NYEric, How can Eric M be correct if there is no micranthum in sugar suite? That means it can't be Liberty Taiwan no matter how you slice it. It will be emersonii x niveum or hangianum x niveum, neither of which is Liberty Taiwan which is made up of micranthum x hangianum.

Intersting that the stem is so short too. Granted hangianum has a short stem but I didn't think it'd have such an effect

I am by no means an expert, but when I first saw this and after a second look it appears to be (emersonii x micranthum) I think that these two parents can put out a plant that has a lip similar to hangianum with the way it protrudes forward.

I have also seen the same barring of the staminode in other crosses that may not have had any hangianum.

Anyone else agree?

Regardless- I like it.

I'm sure Eric M. was not saying Sugar Suite is the same as Liberty Taiwan. Rather that many Paph Sugar Suite's (emersonii x niveum); (and if you simply search "Paph Sugar Suite" you will see photos of blooms that), are obviously hangianum hybrids.
