HI All

I have a nice select plant of Macabre, vinicolor. The plant is from OL and bloomed in december.

I repot the plant, which have nice roots. But until december 2009 nothing, no roots activity, no new growth... I don't understand. I checked the plant yesterday and the roots and all is ok.

What are your advices. This plant is worth keeping, but seems like sleeping beauty....

Thank you in advance for your help

Phil

Macabre likes clean water low in salts, warmth, and humidity but mine is not picky...I have a coloratum form that is tolerant of neglect and still grows like a weed, blooming regularly often twice a year.

you might just have a temperamental clone but it sounds like a nice one....would love to see pics of it next time it blooms.

I use tap water, it works for all my paph : complex, roth, parvi hybrid and brachi. I have 3 other barbata hybrid which are growing very well but they all have roth for parent...

I know barbata dislike water with too much calcium and in Paris the water has a lot of calcium

But the palnt don't loose roots...

If you have a large collection, you might think about buying a reverse osmosis filter for your tapwater. Here in the US R/O filters are inexpensive--much less than the price of a BS rothschildianum seedling :) I have found that paphs greatly appreciate R/O water!

I'm wondering where you live, Phil. Does your climate encourage growth this time of year?

I think Macabre likes warmth and is probably not too happy when it's cold.

I also wonder if you are fertilizing, and if so, with what? Where I volunteer, I talk to a lot of customers who complain about their orchids not growing, and often it is because they either need repotting, or are not being "fed."

Hi

Climate in Paris was strange this year : all the palnts in the garden or home are late, long cold dark winter and classic Spring and Summer not ot not to humid....

I report the plant yesterday : all roots are perfect,I will put it in a mre warm place.

I fertilize with orchid focus grow and bloom with great success.

I have some complex budding at this time...

Hmmm ...... I have to think it's just that individual plant. Sukhs are usually not fussy & for me bloom consistently each year. I don't have a straight Macabre but I do have a couple of Macabre hybrids and they don't present any difficulty.
