This one, concolor x delenatii, has a flower and a bud coming up; it is usually two-flowered. It's a regualr bloomer and a small plant as would be expected.

Yes, I named it. I did some of the earliest breeding with P. delenatii and was unaware of how it transmitted colors, shapes, etc. I thought that a cross with P. concolor would bring some nice oranges, peaches, etc. colors, as well as roundish shapes. When I bloomed the first 20 or so I was rather disappointed, especially with the more legnthy petals and washed-out colors of those from my cross.

However, keeping with my proper upbringing I chose to use a different spelling for what I really thought about the cross.

That's wild!

In 1987 I acquired a division of Paph. Pisar 'Innerarity', AM/AOS and when I showed it off, heard almost word for word that exact explanation from Dan Harvey. He didn't say who it was, but told me that "the guy" who named it was so mad about the shape being wimpy and the color all washed out that he chose the epithet "Pisar" with the intent that it be mispronounced as the colorful pejorative term with a slightly different spelling.

At the time I thought Dan was pulling my leg at the time, but apparently not!

:rollhappy: :rollhappy: Love the naming!
That particular flower is lovely!

I heard the same story from Gary Baker, it's nice to see whether the folklore is true or not!

Lance, I've learned that genetics is much different than mixing colors together with paint, or even light. I'd have thought the same thing with those two species a few years ago.

Interesting story.
