Hey,

Thats a beautifull flower you have there!!
I have bought a sanderianum about 2 weeks ago, this is only 3 years old and the man told me i have to wait for 9 more years for it to bloom :(
How long did yours take?
And can i compare the 2?

Debby

The influence of parishii is surprisingly stong, but I think in a pleasant way. It has a kind of fresh look to it.

(Debby, this is a hybrid which will look very different from your pure species. I am surprised that the seller told you that your plant would be so long to flowering. In my experience sanderianums are slow from flask for the first two years, but then speed up and flower about 5-6 years from flask. the second hand only seems to take about two years to develop to flowering size.)

Hey trithor,

Ohhh if what you say is true (i hope so off course) than i only need to wait for 3 years :) :)
That would be a great surprise....
I live in the Netherlands so maybe its the climat?
I have no idea its my first sandy :)

Debby

Okay, just check my record. This is PSH0063 Paph Sander's Parish (sanderianum 'Flamingo Dance' X parishii 'Jeanie' AM/AOS). I got it May 2007 as a seedling.
I always knew that I love multiflora paph - and they take a long time to flower. So I bought couple dozen seedlings from Sam. And it's been 6 years.. Time go by fast.

Debby's, why don't you post a picture of your sandi in the 'beginner' section, and let everyone comment on it size and what they believe the time scale will be. It will be a good introductory thread for your plants and give us a chance to see what you are growing?

I got one too from SVO not sure the cross but mine is only 5" leafspan. :sob:

A nice outcome of the 2 species! 6 yrs sound pretty normal to me!
No Debby, don't think you can compare, the crosses should have more vigor as they say, which one would think they should be BS sooner.

Great looking flowers Peter. You have flowered anice example of this cross. Do you have more plants of this cross or when you bought seedlings from Sam it was seedling of many crosses?

Debby,
5 to 6 years to flower a sanderieanum is quick if from flask. I have flowered two different plants one after 5 years and one at 6. They started out at 4 inches (10cm) leaf span. At the time of blooming they were 22 and 23 inches leaf span.

Yes, but 9 years is slow

In fact, it'll be 12 years since Debbies seedling is already 3 years old. I love it when a vendor is so optimistic
Honestly, the range the others suggested should be more realistic, unless he sold you a runt. I like Trithors idea about the thread in the beginners section.

Peter, these flowers are awesome: The inflorescence is crowded and the flowers look untidy. I don't care, it's looking great.
