This is the second blooming of this plant that I have had for about 6 years. I imported it from a grower in Hong Kong (Avery Chan) and it barely survived the importation process. It's first bloom last year reminded me of something that Avery mentioned to me: I needed to un-cup the lateral sepals-turned-lips as the bud opens. Last year I waited too long and the flower looked sad an droopy ( http://www.slippertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24538&highlight=peloric ). This year I un-cupped the bud sooner (when the bud was about 3/8 inch across) than last year and I probably should have un-cupped sooner, but I still think that this year's bloom is a bit better than last year and I think that it is attractive in an unusual way. It seems that the sooner you un-cup the flower the more round and compact the form.

If it was a Cattleya it would be a prescious preloric variety - but it's a P. delenatii. I like this odd one in its special way.

That is really cool. I really like it.

So you bought it knowing it would look like this or was it just pure chance?

I bought it hoping that it was a peloric form. It was not in bloom when I purchased it, but the vendor stated that it was a form that reliably bloomed like this.

Sorry for this question but:
What does "un-cup" mean?

I can´t say I like this delenatii but it´s really inusual to find a peloric slipper so thank you for sharing :).
Quite interesting post.

The lateral sepals form around the lip. To get the bud to open I have to force the lateral sepals from that position so that they no longer "cup" or cover the lip.

I've seen a peloric maudiae-vinicolor type before and I thought it was ugly. But I really like this peloric delenatii.

Cool! I prefer the normal, but this stable mutation is kindof neat this time, with a little help to get it to open!

cross with insigne 'oddity' and see if peloricism is multi-allelic. what a special plant I love it!!
