I like Deperle, but most of them don't have a really good overall shape.
Mine looks very much like your plant and droops a bit too. I don't mind so
much and I'm not sacrificing mine to the Perfect Paph. Goddess.

Just curious, does this have any fragrance? What surprises me about this hybrid is that most of the ones I've encountered aren't fragrant or if they are, it's very faint. This is despite the fact that both parents tend to be fragrant. Primulinum has a light scent, sometimes described as honey, but which reminds me of a sweet yeasty fermenting smell, like sourdough bread or even beer. Delenatii usually has a rosey or raspberry scent, some clones being barely fragrant, others are pretty strong. But this hybrid usually isn't very fragrant...I guess the scent genes work against each others similar to the way the color genes do.

Thank you for your comments everybody!
No, it doesnt have fragrance, although some orchids need few days for smell to kick in, so I will sniff again later.
Abax, I don't mind drooping either.
:)

I didn't notice any smell to my blooms at all. I have two DePerle. One is
primulinum var flavem 'Lehua Glow' x delenatii 'Dumbo'. The other hasn't
bloomed yet and is primulinum album 'Sunlight' x delenatii 'Saturina'.
Orchideya, might your plant be one of these crosses? The one that's bloomed has quite a bit more pink in it than your bloom. I hope the unbloomed one is a clean white like yours.

Could be. I got mine from Le Paradis des Orchidées
and they said it is a division of awarded plant. The actual name reads:
Paphiopedilum Deperle 'Philippe' CCM / AOS, of course I have no idea what CCM and AOS mean.
I tried to search for the parents, but didn't find anything. Next time at the show I will ask them.
:)

Deperle is my favorite of hybrids. Easy bloomer for me and I just like the color. I see white mostly in the cross, but have seen one spectacular pink. Yep, a favorite of mine!

CCM = Certificate of Cultural Merit
AOS = American Orchid Society
National orchid societies give awards for high quality flowers and culture. A CCM is one from the American Orchid Society.

Thank you for explaining, Dot.
I always see these abbreviations but never really looked into what they mean, just assumed that it must be a good thing :)

But, the good news is, if you buy a division of a plant that has received a cultural award, like a CCM or a CCE, there is some chance that the genetics of the plant are such that it might be more vigorous than average for home horticulture.

The award only goes to the grower, because it doesn't matter what the genetics are, genetics can not overpower bad culture. But the genetics can play a roll in developing a specimen plant, as vigor is a heritable trait. So the odds are better than 50:50 that a plant that received its grower a CCM is a better growing plant in home conditions than average for the type.

It's not absolute, but as a generality, it is a good thing.
