Here is what it was sold to me as being Paphiopedilum lawrenceanum at the beginning of this year. I did not know that it could be multiflowers! :)
We can see here a similar situation.
This is the reason why I would hate to think to call this thread Paphiopedilum lawrenceanum.
And ... a Paph maudiae is not multiflower either. So... what it is??
This is a huge plant with a very nice foliage and a big flower.

1) It's absolutely beautiful. :smitten:

2) I honestly can't see anything but lawrenceanum...

3) I'm no expert so let's wait until they arrive.

This is a big pretty flower. I don't see any reason not to leave it as lawrencianum.

Double flowers in calosum can be pretty common. It wouldn't surprise me to see a double lawrencianum blooming either.

Given how common double flowers are in calosum, I can't imagine why it would be impossible to see that in any Maudiae.

I see no reason to question this as Paph lawrenceanum, and a rather nice one. It is fairly common for some clones of Paph lawrenceanum to have 2 flowers, and even more common for Maudiae. There are probably both genetic tendencies and cultural conditions that contribute to this.

I would consider it as lawrenceanum too. But how to distingulish between lawrenceanum and maudie? I think they are some what similar, in both leave and bloom.

Looks lawrenceanum to me, and a nice one at that.

(Angela, in broad strokes, Maudiae is the hybrid from lawrenceanum and callosum, 'Maudiae' or Maudiae type refers to the group of hybrids with mottle leaves which have this group in their background also including species such as superbiens, barbatum, purpuratum and others. Vini and coloratum are colour forms of the same group. Coloratum usually distinguishes between the regular colour forms as opposed to the green/album clones (many of the Maudiae type hybrids have been made with both the regular coloured species and again with the album parents) vini are the dark wine red clones resulting from the breeding with certain clones of callosum (or not, depending if you accept those to have been callosum or a different species in its own right)

Thank you soooo much Gary! I keep seeing the descriptions in Paph.
catalogs and had no idea what the vendors meant. Now I do. You can't
believe how your post helps me to decide what plants to order for spring.

FYI Maudiae are very easy to grow. :)
Lies! All lies!

I've only had one Maudiae - one of my first victims. I have two Maudiae types, one of which is dying and the other one is doing fine. In other words, they are difficult! :poke:

I think Gary (Trithor) just posted a double flowered lawrenceanum a month or so ago. Very nice.

Correct and mine currently has two buds for the first time. That will be three consecutive plants of lawrenceanum that has two buds so it couldn't be that uncommon.
