I get the pictures from China

That's gorgeous. I don't think I've ever seen the album form of tigrinum before. Now I'm going to want this one, also!

So Hakone, do you own this plant or are you just showing a picture of the alba form?

Someone had sent this photo from China to me. It would like to offer this plant for 4400 USD . I do not know, which he took from the Yang. Ask for apology:rollhappy:

Dear Hakone,
this albine form was described in China as Paph. smaragdinum and then changed to
Paph. tigrinum forma smaragdinum.
Really a nice clone. You could find also one in my book.

Best greetings

Olaf

I know that I saw this flower somewhere else before, but could not pin point it, until Barry pointed it out.
I thought perhaps I had seen it offerred for sale before, but now I realize I am confused it with paph esquirolei alba (which is available for sale in the US).
Since this plant obviously owned by Yang.
If you do have the money to buy the plant, it may be better to buy a division directly from Yang(or flask of selfing seedlings from him) then risk buying it from someone else base on a photo.

Why couldn't the describing taxonomist use the descriptive name "alba"?

It's easier to remember names when they describe the flower:p

Hey Rick!
Even if the taxonimist did follow your suggestion it would be ALBUM
Remember.........Paphiopedilum........album
Paul

Dear Rick,
the chinese group of Botanists described it as Paph. smaragdinum because the colour of the flower remembered the to smaragds.
Later on ot was transferred to a colourform of tigrinum. So it was necessary to use the epithet of the species for the new combination.
It was impossible to use the word album for this form.
I think forma smaragdinum is also a nice name and not so difficult to learn.

Best greetings

Olaf
