(Cardinale x besseae) - In bloom today in the greenhouse. We used Cardinale' Birchwood' AM/AOS as the pod parent and an un-awarded besseae as the pollen parent. Not award quality IMHO, but a pleasant hybrid and easy to grow.

I don't care for the pronounced petal mid-rib, Dot - From a judging stand-point I'd rather have it smoother in texture. Jimi Hendrix is definitely a possibility, but no fischeri in bloom at present to remake Foolerisch....

The one I'm really looking forward to is somewhat related; it's Phrag. Finetianum (Cardinale x caudatum); the seed pod is now 45 days old and being watched carefully. This grex was registered in 1895 by F. Finet, and appears to have been lost to cultivation - so it would be interesting to see what it looks like.
