Tom, I’ve now lost both the beautiful flavum and Carlisle besseae to heat. I’d like to try again but do you have a secret for keeping them cool during Chicago summers? How do you do it?One of our favorite breeding plants. Thanks for the info on the AM/AOS award.
It seems to me that 'Carlisle' wasn't the one which got an AM: it was the other bessae - Super'Roe'A beauty!
FYI Carlisle received an AM/AOS of 80 points at the Toronto (October this year) monthly AOS judging.
Dr. Ee is correct. According to the AOS Phrag. besseae 'Carlisle' received an 80 pt AM/AOS award at the Toronto judging center on October 1, 2022.It seems to me that 'Carlisle' wasn't the one which got an AM: it was the other bessae - Super'Roe'
Haha yes … I was team captain in the team that scored the AM 80 points.Dr. Ee is correct. According to the AOS Phrag. besseae 'Carlisle' received an 80 pt AM/AOS award at the Toronto judging center on October 1, 2022.
Hi Abax - thanks! This plant grew itself - as far as besseae go. The flower is great but I've been enjoying the foliage for a year. Ya'll can probably relate but I'm very much taken by this plant's foliage. It is also the first double I've had hang on for any length of time, about 2 days. Just checked photos and it was 4 days. How could I have missed this flower???!!!! It's gorgeous and the color just smacks me in the eye...WOW! The flower
also makes me a tad jealous. I can't grow besseae well at all. Donno why.
Will do! Thank you!!Sorry for your losses! Is it possible for you to stop by our growing area at Hausermann's on a Saturday morning around 10 am? Call or email first to let me know you're coming.
OK. There must be something off on the Facebook page. Sorry - I'll mind my own business from now on.Haha yes … I was team captain in the team that scored the AM 80 points.
I dont know if it helps, but my two besseae hybrids just sit in a south facing window, near Niagara Falls, as far as latitude is concerned, and grow in clear pots in a tray,in bark. They just keep doing their thing, with minimal care, and twice a week watering. In the summer, I think, almost too much sun, but in the winter they grow nicely. How could I have missed this flower???!!!!
