When I got home last night I looked at my orchids, and found two phrags in double flower! I realized this afternoon that I should have rushed out and purchased a lottery ticket. I managed to get pictures of both of them without either of the plants dropping a flower, so maybe I should run out tonight and buy one ;) ! When I left, the phrag besseae had two low buds. This plant is underneath fluorescent lights and the red is very intense. This plant came from Tennis Maynard last year or so from one of his house-cleaning sales. Each spring he goes down to the Redland Orchid festival down in Florida, so has to sell some things to make space and increase buying power! :rollhappy:

These flowers may not have perfect form, but are very very bright, and the plant is a survivor if it's lasted this long. I was amazed to see that it had two flowers open and another bud on the way! It's a bit tough to get colors and exposure right when under fluorescent lights, but I think I got the intensity of the red (though things still look a little green)

the flowers are very bright red, but the yellow in the pictures should be brighter instead of looking orange. these flowers really do look like they could catch on fire!

Ooo, when I look at the screen color with some daylight (well, cloudy with snow -light) the color is off. I just took some new pictures and will upload one

Yay besseae! Is this growing along a tube so the stolonous roots can anchor?

the sphagnum is wrapped around a green block of floral foam, the stuff you can use to make flower arrangements and stick the ends of the flower stems in the foam. I did just see one root that had grown outside the moss a little and had grown back inside. i'm still not sure if this is the best way to do it as I may have to keep manipulating the growths to get them to root into the moss (or just put a little bunch of it around the newest growth and tie it down)

this is much closer to true color; though the red is very intense, it isn't the
real 'true' red that I've seen other besseae's have, but bright red with some orange in it.
I had to under-expose a fair amount, and then increase the saturation, increase the red
and decrease the blue (and then increase the digital 'exposure' and brightness). it's sitting on
my television and though it's not bright in my room, the red/color is just leaping off of the
flowers. looking again at the flowers, they are still a bit more red, but it's very hard to get
all of that saturation without completely overdoing the rest of the colors and brightness
