I'm not pleased with this blooming. When I bought the plant last year, the flower was just about perfect. Sigh. Maybe the next flower will be better.

Very nice. I would be happy with any flower I could get straight besseae to produce! Nicely photographed too!
 
... considering the summer we had last year, any blooming bessie is great!
 
I like the color. I was just wondering, is there a cross between the flavum and regular varieties of besseae?
 
The regular varieties (red) are dominate and drown out the flava (yellow) color. The only reason these to are crossed is it increase the genetic strength of a flava besseae. Then, once blooming size, you either sib or self them. Finally, some of the seedling will be full flava but stronger from the (usually) increased strength of the regular varieties.
 
i had thought that there were vendors who had 'salmon' colored besseaes, that were the result of crossing red and yellow? or were they just unusual color variants?
