I got this from Chuck Taylor earlier this year when he came to speak at the Vancouver Orchid Society. The parentage is 'Neon Fire' AM/AOS x "Maid (something) AM/AOS (the tag was a little bit smudged)Although I am not enjoying the fairly cool summer weather we are having in Vancouver, this phrag seems to like it! I put it outside in the balcony ever since it's in spike. Here's the first flower, it was quite orange:

and this is the latest flower, I think it's improving. The shape is fuller and the color is very red:

Thanks for all the nice comments! Dot, it's mid-July and the current temperate range in Vancouver is a high of 19-21 C, and a low of 13-15C. Much cooler than my growroom under MH light! It sure doesn't feel like summer at all here.

I keep coming back to look at this red colour. It's fantastic. You sure are having a cool summer. That's a bummer! But, at least you've got your own private silver lining. [Try telling your neighbours that you like the cool weather because it makes your Phrags red! LOL! They'll probably tell you to go see a doctor about that!]

yay besseae! 91F and humid tomorrow in NYC! :(

Today is hot and humid here and it's getting hotter. Thursday is forecast to be 37*C (99*F)! All my besseae's and besseae crosses are coming out a bit washed out lately! I don't like the cold weather; but, at least it makes my Phrags colour up nicely!

Well John, your besseae in a glass dish is gorgeous too! I lost count of how many times I have looked at that picture, admiring the red flower and its round petals!

Eric, no, it's in the traditional bark/perlite/sphag mix. :)

That's my weather dilemma, also!
