After waiting years, heart breaking bud blasts, I finally have a Phrag China Dragon opening. Hoping it will open on up and petals extend. This is day 2 pic. Honestly I'm not jumping for joy though :(

Troy, Yes, I see this frequently.

Dot, This is a Chuck Acker x and I was hoping for a darker red. The bud color looked promising but as you can see from the picture it's red tinged.:(

I see the color washed out when the blooms finally open on many red hybrids ( those crosses that have shiny red on the outside of the buds) they look kind of pale on the inside .
-if you look, most of them have the back side much more red than the front .
-sometimes when you take photos with flash , the light hits the flower and reflects the red of the back as well , so the photos show more red than what you see with your eye .
-for some flower, it is not the skin of the flower that is red , but the tiny hairs make the flower look red , I notice the hybrids that cross back to dalessandroi and besseae multiple times have lots of tiny hair and very red.

Thank you Hien for the info, this one is same color on back as the front. No flash was used but it was getting reflective light from outside. May have washed the color somewhat. I do not have the parentage of the X but it is a 4N.

Angela, yes it did bloom, which is always a good thing !! :)
