Wish all my plants had such healthy roots. :)

Wow! You brought out the best of this plant. Good growing! Congratulations!

Edit: I'd like to add that you've had this plant for 8 months and you potted it when you got it. So, the root growth is all because of your culture. Plus, the plant was nowhere near that big when I sent it to you...and of course, it was not in spike either. You've really found the "sweet spot" of what this clone likes. The plant is vigorous, both in root growth and top growth and you've got excellent colour on that flower. Hmmmm? When's the next judging in Montreal? Well done! Bravo!

Thanks for your comments John. But I did see great potential in that plant or I would not have bought it. You sell good stuff and I'll keep looking at your web site for more great potential plants. :)

Yay besseae hybrids!
What media is it in, are you growing it under lights?

I put most of my plants in Aussie Gold Mix for paphs and phrags. That includes lycastes, masdevallias, catasetums, chysis... The exceptions are cattleyas and vandas which go either in bark or wood charcoal. I find the mix is just as good as semi-hydro. You can't water it too much, it doesn't pack since everything is either inorganic or breaks down so slowly you'll have to move to a bigger pot by the time it does. Bugs hate it. Almost nothing falls out of the pots when I tip them over accidentally, as it happened so often when I used s/h and clay pellets. In fact, I frequently turn plants upside down to remove water in the crowns without the mix falling out (just don't shake). Finally, the mix is reusable but needs to be sterilized for further use.
It can be used in any situation either under light or in a greenhouse. My phrags grow part of the year in the greenhouse, then outside and inside the house in autumn to give the cool demanding plants a three months cold rest in the greenhouse. Then I raise temps in the gh and move nearly everyting back in there.

I've been growing orchids for more than 30 years and this is the best mix I have found yet for my growing conditions. (Though I must say nothing beats live sphagnum for masdevallias, if you can find it at a reasonnable price).

And no, I don't sell the stuff and get no commission whatsoever for pointing out its merits. :)

BTW 'Just a little something worth noting: There are a few people now that have a piece of this clone. To keep things clear, I just want to say that the clonal name is 'PJ', not 'P.J.'
