This is a second growth flower from our newest generation Phrag. Jason Fischer's. The cross is Phrag. besseae 'Rick Hunter' x M.D. Clements 'Red Wing'. It is a diploid Jason Fischer, but probably is just as large as any tetrapoids out there! Still one of the best Phragmipedium hybrids based on shape and color. I crossed it onto one of our best and flatest Peach colored Phrag. Fritz Schomburgs, to hopefully improve on the size of the Jason Fischer, and hopefully it will keep the red color and shape of the Jason Fischer.

Interesting, as long as the Fritz Schomburg doesn't end up diluting the color of the diploid Jason Fischer. Did you do the hybrid both ways? And are both parents diploids?

I am guessing that it will be more diluted in color than a straight Jason Fischer, but Mem. Dick Clements x kovachii has pretty dark flowers too, and in the cross that I made, Fritz Schomburg, is already half besseae. I am not absolutely sure about the ploidy level of the Fritz Schomburg that I used, as there is a possibility that it was made with a tetraploid besseae (so it may be a triploid), but it does breed. It has a much flatter shape (and basically looks like a giant besseae) than the other Fritz Schomburgs that we have. And yes, I made the cross both ways...

Here is a picture of the Fritz Schomburg that I used:

Very nice flowering from all points of view (color and shape) and a well grow plant.
