Bought this a long time ago from Jerry Fischer up at Orchids, Ltd. It has the most pink coloration we've ever seen in a longifolium. The award is relatively recent - 2005. This is a cut spike, as I harvested a (x self) pod this morning. Seedlings in 2013?

I don't generally like longifolium; but, this one is special. I'd be happy to own that one or one just like it. The extra colour makes a HUGE difference to me. Good luck with the seeds.

Dot,

Time to remake Eric Young......with a good deep red besseae.........or Hummingbird....or Dragon's Year? The possibilities are endless, and life is short (but fascinating).....

They would all be interesting. Longifolium is such a great parent to begin with. How about x schlimii (Sedenii)? Or maybe x pearcei -- maybe it wouldn't be green?

Yes, we need two lives….

Hi Bill,

I have one that's about 3-4 weeks away from blooming as well, but your's will probably bloom first. These are very slow in spike development. Pls post a photo when it blooms..

Thanks,

Actually we remade Eric Young with the plant, and I believe it is the parent that I used to make Hummingbird (if it was not the actual plant it was a seedling from 'Fernbrook' x self). It has been a good parent, but I have not seen it inherit it's pink color (although if I would not have used it to make Hummingbird the flowers may not have ended as dark as they did).

If I have time I will post some pictures of it's progeny.

Beautiful flower. I wish that I could keep this species alive let alone bloom it.

Phrag longifolium is one of the easiest Phrag species to grow and bloom. It is simply a weed and if it has a fault, that is it along with how large it grows. It imparts great vigor and sequential blooming over a long period of time. Like most Phrags it needs good water and wet feet.
