In bloom as we speak, the flowers of this rare Brazilian species have the same form and color as Phrag. longifolium, but on a plant half it's size. Compots available on the website for those who might be interested.

Thanks,

The flowers are about 3/4 the size of a typical longifolium, but the plant is much smaller; like half the size with narrower leaves. It clumps readily and it's not unusual to have two or three growths blooming simultaneously, making a nice display.

Dido - I wish we could come to Europe, but I did not renew my CITES permit years ago when I found I was spending more time doing paperwork than growing my plants.

Nice, Tom!

May I ask your growing temperatures? I've noticed with my longifolium that cooler temperatures deepen the colors considerably. Can't help but wonder...

Is this the little one? The one that looks more like caricinum or equadorense? I had one of those, had it for years.....don't remember why it died..which is unusual in itself, since I find phrags to be almost indestructable...but its a great plant.

Hi Dot,

I'm growing in what I would consider intermediate to cool temps in the new greenhouse, with night temp at 62F and day temp 62F minimum plus whatever the sun provides (usually about 10F). On cloudy days, the temp stays pretty much around 62-64F.

Eric - I think you're referring to Phrag. longifolium v gracile; it has a more compact grassy foliage, like ecuadorense and a smaller flower than roezlii.

Hi Tom -- you have sun??? Oh, I forget -- you are on the other side of Lake Michigan!:D

Then the colors are quite true, and now I'll have to get me one! Will you be bringing these to MOS???

Hi Dot,

I'll plan to bring a couple of compots. If you'd like a division of the plant in bloom, I'll send you a PM w the price.

Happy Holidays, Dot!

Thanks for the offer, Tom -- I'd love a division.

Happy Holidays to you, also -- and to everyone here!
