This was a gift from my good friend Kai Quintal of Quintal Farms, sort of. I gave it to him because he liked it(bought it from another Big Island grower). The last time he sent me some phrags a division of it was included. I divided the plant into 3 pieces and this one bloomed about a week ago. I thought it had pretty nice color, but not too sure. This is the first time I have bloomed it here...

Was it labeled pearcei? I have, pearcei, longifolium and equidorium(?) And I am going to have a line up to tell the difference. So far the only difference is the equid... is a miniature of the others which are about 3 times bigger. Aloha Buy the way only in Hawaii can you get by growing in rocks, excuse me, lava rock since the water is soooo pure. Try that in so. calif and you would burn every root off, you can't leech out salts with more hard water. The best we can do is use chelated iron to bind the salts to pass through.

I absolutely love the pattern inside the pouch! I'll show my Phrag. Green Hornet this picture, for inspirational purposes (it's in bud already, but it won't hurt). :D

to my eye, it 'looks' like classic ecuadorense, but depending on which author you read, ecuadorense and pearcei are synonyms. You described the plant size, it could be ecuadorense. It is ok to leave it labelled pearcei, because that may indeed be the latest, more scientifically correct name. The irregular fuzzy eyebrows are classic ecuadorense. Most pearcei I have seen, the black cilia of the 'eyebrows' are shorter and more 'tailored'. I doubt in isolation that this is a significant separator, but with the whole package I would say it is the trait that says to me ecuadorense.

Nice one at that. Kai and the rest at Quintal are good people.

I have been trying to find the small ecuadorense for a long time with no luck. Very nice one you have there.

I want it Rick. Do you have a division of this?

Which one? I do have established pieces of the pearcei, it has a HCC. I haven't divided the ecuadorense yet. You might contact JohnM about his ecuadorense, being in Canada and all:wink: They both grow well in S/H BTW.

I have a var ecuadorense but its big. I want a division of the one in the dixie cup.
