I got this in 2007 from Russell (Phrag guy), as a seedling. This is the third time it has spiked; but, only the second successful blooming. The first bloom attempt was in March 2008 and the freeze killed all the foliage and the spike before any flowers could open. Over the following year, the plant came back and bloomed for the first time the next year in October and now, it's in spike again; but, with a side branch this time too. Also, it's a deeper red this time around. I guess the cold nights we've had lately have helped boost the colour up. I hold off as long as possible in the fall before I put the heaters on.

Thanks very much everybody. I sure am happy that this came back from the brink of death. 100% of the foliage was frozen and gone in March 2008; but, the plant regenerated from the roots and rhizome. Whew!
