This is somehow the most variable plant I have. It was a bit difficult to get adapted to my growing conditions, but soon it started to grow and is now a 6 growths plant, blooming regularly... However, the flowers are always different:

Fisrt bloom (2009 - Phragmipedium lindenii complex):

Second Bloom (2009 - Phragmipedium exstaminodium complex):

Third Bloom (2010 - No picture but was like the second flower in shape but dark as the first one)

Fourth Bloom (2010 - less color, but finally a full flower!):

This one is sooooo beautiful!!!! It looks like a Paph delenatii hybrid....hehe!!

Fantastic flower Ramon. I love how it keeps your interest peaked up!! You never know what you're going to get!

That's a good progression. Where the 3rd and 4th blooms from the same spike? Did you change your growing conditions during the time period? I've ended up loosing all of the ones I bought.

I like your classification scheme.

1st and 2nd were from the same spike. 3rd was a new spike in April 2010 and the 4th a new spike (bloomingnow). 1st to 3rd, the plant was growing under lights... 4th, the plant is now growing in the greenhouse: more light, different water (no RO anymore), somehow cooler temps...

Great fischerii Ramón. Well worth the wait. Even deformed on the first shot, the colour is such that I would never have thrown it away.

The color was awesome on the first bloom! It seems to be getting progressively lighter. I will be interested to see what it looks like next time. Nice!

Simply lovely :) Love the color on the first two years, were you growing it at lower temperature back then?

Actually it was warmer at that time... the plant was all the time in my appartment growing under T5 lights...

I think temps are a bigger deal than I originally thought for this species. I bought mine form Orchid Babies in Alabama (250 miles south of me), but although he has them and breeds them, Earl told me they don't always do good and seem to struggle. At least until this year (since I lost mine) his cooling system is/was superior to mine, so I may put them back on the list.

In comparison they appear to be flourishing up at Jerry Fisher's GH in Minnesota (800+ miles north of me)!

Also in comparison my Mexipedium is a totally unstoppable weed in my GH, compared to the struggles I here about up North.

Sam is selling flasks of these now...i am hesitant to buy one ...killed off a besseae flask...what is the temperature range they like?

Thanks for posting! It is very interesting!
For me the specie always bloom the same way, with a very slight variation but always deep in color. I was wondering how come some of the crosses like Phrag. Michel Tremblay I've seen were so variable in color... It is a good clue! Seems it is not just a question of temperature!

One of my favorite species! I rate it just below besseae as a parent because it darkens red and pink coloration in it's offspring. I know that some may disagree with this and choose kovachii as second in importance (or even first) but IMHO, the F1 Pk hybrids have generally been a disappointment to me in terms of form (with a few exceptions) and we won't see it's true potential until we get to it's second generation hybrids - and then only if we back-cross them to micropetalum species or first generation micropetallum hybrids. I'm just saying.........
