Yesterday I took the plunge and upgraded to Windows 8 from Windows XP and I am currently in a world of pain. I don't know where anything is or how to get around my computer. I feel like the first day I turned a computer on. Hopefully that will improve over time.

But I noticed when I get into the Slippertalk site the unread posts function doesn't seem to be working. It will say for example I have 30 unread posts but when I click the link to read these unread posts it comes up with nothing. This happens permanently. Any ideas? I would have upgraded to IE 8 at the same time.

IE is usually the problem. No problems with a different browser like Firefox.

Thanks Lance. I'm in Firefox now and it is working fine, so IE 8 is the problem. When I was using Windows XP, Firefox would continually crash my computer whenever i was on the internet. So I had to stop using it. Hopefully that problem is now gone.

There is a different Ff version for every windows version. It gets confusing.

I was in real trouble with my 7 year old daughter because her favourite website wouldn't work. Tried Firefox and no trouble at all. I think I'll just give IE8 a total miss.

I think Windows 8 has persuaded me to make my next computer a Mac......

I have the same problem with ST from my work computer. I have no choice on browser/server there. Just have to live with what the IT guy dishes out. I use Firefox at home, so ST works normally here.

I want the Imac with the 27" screen! I hate laptops, even though I use them when I have to....and macbooks are better....but I'm still a hard core desktop computer guy, and always will be. I bought my wife an Ipad for her birthday...played with it about 5 minutes, got bored and never touched it again.

I played around with an Ipad and I wasn't impressed either. I just like the
dependability of my MacBookPro. Hey Eric, my nephew has his internet
hook-up on a 54" tv screen. Donno how he did it, but it makes for HUGE
orchids!

We have the 27". Not the latest one, it was new in 2012. Also a 2008 MB Pro and an iPad (gen1).
I gave the MB pro to my daughter and primarily use the iPad and it works well for everything I need to do, and things I don't - we no longer have cable because we can get everything we want to watch online between cable channel apps and hulu+. However, the computers are definitely faster for forum work, etc. I think one of the best things for me on the iPad is documents - I have all my recipes stored there and can use it when I cook, which is pretty cool. It also syncs automatically to the macs and my iPhone.

Battery is getting slow though, after 3 years. I could see myself actually enjoying the mini as well. JMHO. :)
