Waay off topic but I was amazed by these photos. I had no idea there are people who do this urban exploration photography, and that it goes so far as getting through red tape and risking health to visit Chernobyl.

There are photos by at least 2-3 people on flickr who recently visited, Geiger counter in hand. For anyone interested, here's a set of photos by Vivo (Ben) of the UK. He talks about it a bit on a thread here.

Did we not have a close call ourselves at 3 MILE ISLAND as well.
It is strange that modernized countries think that nuclear is safe.
Even China will join the rest of us into madness of destruction

The article only raises concern about india, but actually all the Southeast asian countries down stream will get their ration of poison too.
I am surprised about the carelessness of Chinese government toward their citizens' health as per this article,
when I read the part about the Yangtse river. This is the famous river that run all the way to Shanghai, passing Wuhan & Nanjing.
I quote a portion of that article here.
"It seems both Ms Zhou and Greenpeace are keeping their distance from the selfless and courageous environmental activist, Mr. Sun Xiaodi, a former worker at a uranium mine near Tibet's eastern border. Arrested and detained by the Communist authorities on 6th April 2006, he has disclosed alarming reports of the dumping of uranium waste into the River Yangtse"

absolutely stunning photography. it is like time has stopped within chernobyl while everything around has continued to grow and develop

Great photos...interestingly enough, Chernobyl has turned out to be one of the richest wildlife areas in Europe....despite the radiation, the lack of humans and human interference has led to an explosion of biodiversity in the region...including wild horses (Przwalski's horses...forgive the spelling...) birds, all kinds of plants....its amazing. Take care, Eric

I'm also still stunned that someone (in this case, 18 year old from the UK, who does photography as a hobby, not a profession) would go there.

Did you see his comment that the powerplant workers commute from across the border?
