Hi everyone,

Could you give me suggestion of what are the names of the best red phrag hybrids from your exprience in these categories (may be two dozens crosses):

-really red or intense orange red
-Saturated pigment (almost solid in color)
-floriferous (in succession or same time)
-ease to bloom
-not too big plant (least important)

Photo would help & who sell them , or who can I beg for or buy a division .

I really have no energy left to raise flask or compost (although exciting) too much time consuming . I just want to enjoy the flower "now"

Hi Hien, did you make the Deep Cut show this year?
Noirmonts get really big. Any of the crosses coming around with dalessandroi in lieu of besseae meet your requirements. Piping Rock and Main Street had them at the Deep Cut show. Check w/ Pupsi-Dog on eBay also. Let me know if you have plants to get rid of and maybe I can arrange a trade.

Hi Eric , I did , I bought (2) plants from Piping Rock
-Longifolium"black as night x dalessandroi someone broke the spike before I bought it, so only one flower to goes by, it is redder than other Eric Young but not as red as those I have seen from photos of other peoples' plants
-lindleyanum x dalessandroi (not bloom yet)
I have no phrags left now or many other orchids either (given them all aways before).
Trying to collect again a few that give me some level of pleasure .

this is what I see on you tube...just breathtaking.. make you want to collect again.

however, Orchid limited no longer having them..I also wonder the result could be from the parents used (another breeder may not have the same result with the same hybrid , using different parents )

Scarlet O'Hara or Jason Fisher. Glen Decker had an Elizabeth Castle x kovachii (which might be named for Carlos Fighetti's wife? daughter?)

Jason Fischer & Scarlet O' Hara are really red..I think orchid limited also don't have Scarlet O' Hara anymore .

I still think besseae (modern breeding lines) are probably one of the easiest Phrags that meet your demands. Or try finding some Phrag. Jersey. Looks identical but stays in the pot.

Tyler

I did manage to kill a lot of besseae (named divisions) so I am a little bit afraid to go to the pure species . Right now I have one non-descriptive besseae and one non descriptive dalessandroi from ecuagenera that I bought at Deerborn show in NJ last year . They did not die yet but not flourish either .
Do you think the modern breeding line is less demanding ?

I think the bad plants from this cross are "just" very good! :p

I hope mine in bloom for this spring...

I grow a lot of red Phrags, I am just unable to choose just one... the best bloomer for me is an Evening Blaze 'Franceville', but the color is not the darkest. For the best color, Scarlet O'Hara 4N and Red Wing are similar, but I think my Red Sky 'Deep Red' is even better, but it is a very tall plant that doesn't clump quickly.

Thanks for naming them, I will looking for them in the future. My goal is just concentrate on maybe about 24 plants so they will be manageable . Since it won't be a lot of plants , I will have to look for the ones that match the criteria closely . Orchid limited does not have Red Sky anymore . Do you know any grower making them still?
