While looking over my Phrags I finally decided to do something about my schlimii. It has been almost 4 yrs since I unpotted and it had grown above the S/H that the new growths weren't rooting. Plus it had allot of dead leaves on it. My reason for delay, I really didn't have a container big enough to move on.

The plant out of pot

Problem solved for a new pot :p

Now maybe I'll get lucky and it will bloom decent. It has always tried in the summer with distorted or blasted flowers. Is that the right time of the year?

I can't see the photos. My computer's fault. However, I'll say that my 4 clones of schlimii bloom at any time of year. With enough light, they never stop growing and as soon as each growth matures, they bloom. Good luck!

That plant really likes S/H and the bucket is a fine idea. Did you leave a handle on the bucket? I don't believe I
could even lift that bigun' without a handle. I might try
a couple of my Phrags. in Hydroton. I've got a ton of it.
Are you going to set the bucket in water?

No Angela, no water tray. Look closely towards the bottom of the bucket, you will see 4 holes I melted into it with a sodering iron. I'll water the plant until the water make it to the top or shooting straight out of the holes. Sometimes it takes too much water to actually file the container all the way up. You can be assured the plant will be well watered when the stones stay wet and moss begins to grow.

I saw the holes and the roots look far better than some
of mine since I've been repotting. I also see some brown
tips in the background on other plants. Do you have any
idea what causes the brown tips?

Too high of a concentration of fertilizer Angela.
Take a look at this Phrag S. Apprentice, the last time it was potted was March 2013.the only brown tips is on the oldest growth and it's actually dying out

I was always plague by the tip die back when I fed at a rate of 100ppm of nitrogen /phosphorus /potassium years ago. Now for the last 3 years I'm feeding about 20ppm of N and 1ppm of the other two I cleaned all that up. I water every other time in the summer and every other week in the winter. With that said, it took quite a bit of convencing by Rick L and others before I got that low. As I slowly lowered the fert the Phrags responded immediately. Bottom line, you don't have to go that low to get rid of the die back.

Looking really good. I just repotted my schlimii, and was thinking about going the SH route but decided to stick with my standard mix at the last minute. Now I'm thinking I should have made a different choice.

I'm feeding very little...maybe once a month in winter with
1/4 tsp. K-Lite. That amount doesn't seem like much to
me, but then I'm not all that knowledgable about Phrag.
winter requirements.

Happyrotter, I'm trying a couple in Hydroton for experimental
purposes. However, I'm not using the S/H plastic pots. I'm
using clay pots with holes on the sides.
