Hi, purchased a "eric young awarded plant" off ebay, from the title and the photo in the listing, saw Am/aos in the plant title, figured it was a division and did a quick BIN for $39, didn't read the details.. Received the plant and label was "Phrag eric young 4x x Lindleyanum "birchwood" am/aos - so a CROSS
not "eric young awarded plant". this is the flower - should I keep it or send it back.. first flower did finally get some color, but very small and petals are different? is 1 growth with new growths starting.. but a bit high $? for this plant.. will be out the return shipping.
NOw I know to read fully as there is someone also listing for a 1 growth of a "rare paph xxx Am/aos" and when I asked the seller if it was a division or seedling , they said a seedling of paph xxx am/aos x self... so have to stop the BIN's

It doesn't seem so bad to me. Let's see what the other buds are like. Personnally I like the colour. The cross is called Young Lindley. If you lived in Canada, I would gladly take it off your hand.

does the auction list that returns are allowed?
if not and you send it back, you may be out of the plant as well as the cost of shipping it back
sorry

Sorry Brian has a point & if it was listed in the details you may not have a leg to stand on. The titles are meant to get our attention. It's not bad, I too, like the color, it's not another all pink bess x.
Maybe the seller has something else that would be of more interest to you? Maybe a swap?

Hi, listing title was "phrag eric young awarded plant" and title in description
said phrag eric young lindleyanum girchwood am/aos - the "x" was missing
and stupidly figuring an "awarded plant" can only be a division of same, not a "cross" of.. this is the bloom photo that was posted with the listing..
does anyone know which "eric young" awarded plant this is?? I really would
like one of IT, have searched photos of eric young and haven't found this one.. to even know which one to search - watch for

The shape is Young Lindley, but the color isn't. Even with a flavum in the background, it shouldn't be that shade of pink. There are AOS awards to Young Lindley, if you have AQPlus to look it up, and one pic on Wiz. There are flavum Eric Youngs, with peach/coral color.

If the thought of whether you should keep it or not even exists in your mind.
Then you know your precious growing space does not feel the plant's absence.

I would keep it but I have plenty of space, it may not get any better. It's not a bad flowering though to me.

This is only my opinion so please don't take offense. To me it's a piece of crap and I'd chunk in the trash as a mark up for experience. I wouldn't waste my time shipping it but that's just me. I don't care for the color nor do I like the funky "teeth" on the rim of the pouch. The dorsal looks like it has issues too.
I recently had a bad deal off of ebay myself. I got the right plant pictured but the flower wasn't completely open at the time of the photograph. A prim X brachy hybrid, the dorsal reflected too much for me. I sold it at our monthly meeting on the silent auction table, 5 -10 bucks done, no big deal.

Hmmm ..... now that there's a question regarding if this plant is labeled correctly, you've got a leg to stand on, contact the seller!

If your only reason for returing it is because you misread the description and didn't realize it was a cross, then, IMO, you don't have a leg to stand on. That was YOUR fault. However, the title of the auction was not true to what you were buying and that's the vendor's fault.

Is it just me, or does there not seem to be ANY lindleyanum at all in either flower? I just don't see lindleyanum as a parent of either of these. Plus, the flower you received is definitely a different cross from the flower in the ad photo.

So, it seems (IMO), that you were taken. Maybe the vendor is ignorant and doesn't realize that his auction was full of inaccuracies.....then again, maybe he's just dishonest. I'd NEVER deal with him again, either way. You just can't be sure what you're gonna get.

Hi, the reason for returning it was the title was "phrag eric young awarded plant" and there was NO "x" indicating cross in the description - and the bloom photo cannot be either parent.. when I asked the seller they said the bloom photo was an awarded "eric young" but they didn't have or know which one.. so obviously grabbed a photo off somewhere.. I did buy other phrags that were not in bloom or spike, so won't know if they aren't what they are labeled, advertised as, until (and if) they bloom for me.
have learned to read the description for "actual plant you are bidding on" and "similar or "like" plant in photo..Got royally taken by an Ebay seller that had a speciman plant in the photo, and talked about the plant as "she is a monster", " she has huge branching bloom spike", (phal) "she has deep red flowers" but in the fine print in lines and lines of description about the specimen plant, was "bidding on a plant LIKE" the photo.. did not recieve the "specimen" monster plant.. but a small keiki off something..
but thats another thread on this forum
thank you for the feedback here, I didn't think the flower was "great" and I did return this plant. seller did acknowledge the listing "could" be misinterpreted.. the flower was OK, but one small growth and very small flower of not great quality.. not worth what I paid or taking up the limited space.. .
