Has anyone bloomed a roth that had mauroon color to the base of the last leaf just before the spike emerged? I've bloomed only two plants and neither had color like this.

another angle,

It's been trying to spike/ bud up since early spring of this year.

Yeah, I'd consider this the "norm". Looks like you have a spike coming. Can't wait to see them!

I have a roth that bloomed in early May that had the maroon streaking on the newest leaf also. I don't remember it being quite as pronounced as yours seems to be. It was the first roth that I ever flowered, so I thought it was par for the course. Here's a shot of it today.

David,
It's a cross I got from Leo back in 6/08, 'Eureka' X 'Rex'. I knew Leo wouldn't of made a mistake on the ID but he could of gotten miss ID'd plants as seedlings from someone. I just hadn't seen this coloration before in other roths. Like I said, this leaf showed up in Feb/March but then nothing much after that. Three new growths came up at the same time and over the summer more active growth has developed from the crown but no buds:(! It may never bloom from this growth or wait until next spring!
