I vistied the show on Saturday and took some pictures. The show and the number of the venders have shrunk very badly, however, I enjoyed the trip.

I came home with NO PLANTS.

I ended up ordering one of these since I could not find it at the sales side.

Nice pics. I'm surprised to see a helenae there. Here it would be a cause of great concern and probebly yanked out of the exhibit.

It's so much fun to watch the reaction of someone who has never seen a Bulbophyllum phalaenopsis before, just as they rush up and take a big whiff! :poke:

Good luck with that Trichoglottis - they are spectacular. I have one now that's about 3 feet tall and is a beautiful specimen - but I have never been able to throw enough light on it to make it bloom. The nature of the fragrance is the exact opposite of your new discovery above.

People are getting bold. Seems like the Paph. Wössner China Moon would cause concern as well.

I got HID lights. :D

Yes, I had that pleasure, but I don't think it was ncart that I saw get the full experience unless ncart is a little old lady :D:D.

I didn't find anything either.

It was also sad that the Oregon Orchid Society didn't show up with their display. I hope nothing bad happened .

Great photos! And good luck with yours:):)

I had a trichoglottis plant cutting once but couldn't keep it humid enough! :(

Same here! Kind of! Trichoglottis smithii! The leaves were getting more and more brown and it finally died! :(:( I had it mounted!

Yes, I judged at the show. There were a few comments regarding the Paph helenaes, in particular the darker colored flower. They were not considered for AOS awards but were included in the ribbon judging. The conversation regarding these things seems to come up pretty commonly.

We are seeing more of these sorts of conundrums with "banned" species and their hybrids exhibited more often. Vendors are even selling hybrids with helenae and hangianum in the background among others on the list. It doesn't appear that the orchid police are lingering around a few plants, but it does put us in a difficult position.

sometimes the plants are legally imported, i think. not too many and not in much quantity but....
also, there are some legal helenae around.
