Hi all,
My name is Mathias and I live in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. I have been a "lurker" here for a while, reading several posts and threads, but I have not contributed with any posts of my own until recently. The reason is that I quite recently have started to grow a few paphs and phrags and I have read a lot of older posts to learn. As I now have started to write more I thought it would be prudent to introduce myself.
I have been growing orchids for around 10 years, and I now have a quite varied collection of around 120 plants, including both seedlings and adults. Several of these plants are miniatures that I grow in two different terrariums. My biggest interest is in Cattleyas and its relatives, and they form the bulk of my collection. I have however started to grow a few paphs and phrags and I currently have:
Phragmipedium pearcei var. ecuadorense
Phragmipedium besseae
Phragmipedium Mini Grande (struggling after major root loss)
Phragmipedium Schroderae
Paphiopedilum delenatii
Paphiopedilum hainanense
Paphiopedilum Yang-Ji Diamond (Paph. adductum var. anitum x Prince Edward of York)
The Paphs are all young plants, although I think P. hainanense might be ready to flower anytime now.
I grow my plants on my windowsills, with additional light from either fluorescent tubes or a metal halid lamp (a necessity at my latitude). However, I dream of a greenhouse in the future...
I hope to read a lot of interesting posts here, getting inspired by fantastic pictures of both species and hybrids, and also sharing some of my own orchid stories and pictures (good and bad).
